A planning note, not measured performance.
Every output is a simplified estimate, fixed-rule checklist or editorial comparison. It is not a professional acoustic measurement, calibrated exposure assessment, compliance test, contractor quote or guarantee of noise reduction. The site cannot establish a hidden sound path, actual assembly performance or the outcome of proposed work.
The noise proxy has narrow assumptions.
Outdoor distance adjustment assumes an ideal point or continuous line source in a free field. Wall and window allowances are example scenario values, not tested products, STC/Rw ratings or measured building data. The energy-fraction combination is a mathematical simplification; missing spectra, room absorption, gaps, vents, flanking, reflections and indoor sources can dominate a real home. A precise decimal is not evidence of accuracy.
Absorption is not isolation.
Curtains, rugs and porous panels may affect some in-room reflections or contact sounds without establishing airborne isolation between dwellings. Generic categories have no universal STC, Rw, NRC or IIC value. Ask for relevant evidence for a complete assembly and installation; do not subtract a laboratory rating from a room reading as if it were a guaranteed reduction.
Costs and real-world arrangements.
Dollar or other currency defaults are illustrative assumptions, not live market prices. Tax, approvals, finishing, disposal, access and repairs may change actual costs. No quote, product order, contractor booking or approval is made here. Confirm scope and terms directly with the responsible provider.
Safety and qualified review.
Keep ventilation, smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms, escape routes and required equipment functional. Do not cover or seal necessary openings, alter a fire door, overload surfaces or change structural/electrical elements based on this toolkit. Seek appropriate advice about permissions, mounting, fire properties, moisture, hazardous materials and building services before work.
Sleep and wellbeing.
Environmental planning and time-in-bed arithmetic are not medical guidance or a sleep measurement. No improvement in sleep, health or wellbeing is promised. Persistent sleep difficulties, distress or other health concerns should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional. Do not obscure alarms with masking sound or delay real-world assistance for an urgent concern.
Educational background and corrections.
The distance example is informed by public explanations of free-field sound propagation. It is not an official building model or an endorsement by any authority. If a result seems wrong, review assumptions, stop relying on it and report an invented reproducible example through Contact. Mandatory legal rights and liabilities that cannot be limited remain unaffected.
